The Phantom is a one-of-a-kind mixed-media relief sculpture exploring beauty, power, and the quiet danger of a predator that never needs to announce her presence.

Hand-sculpted and meticulously finished, she emerges from a charred, reclaimed oak branch in three-dimensional relief. More than 120,000 individually placed pin nails create the texture, direction, and movement of her coat, building a highly tactile surface that shifts with the light.

Her sculpted claws from repurposed Mule Deer antlers extend from each paw, emphasizing the leopard’s anatomy and latent power. Copper oak leaves are integrated into the composition, adding a warm metallic contrast to the darkened wood and the layered tones of the animal’s coat. Subtle applications of gold leaf catch the light across selected details, creating controlled highlights without diminishing the work’s shadowed character.

The eyes are individually hand-painted glass, with layered color, fine detailing, and carefully placed highlights that give her gaze its focused, lifelike intensity. Each eye is finished by hand to preserve the slight variations and depth that make her expression feel present rather than merely depicted.
